The converging markets for information, entertainment, and communications systems are driving the evolution of the fourth wave of computing systems that require compact and portable, full color video displays. Markets of interest include the exploding markets for camcorders and digital cameras, palmtops ranging form PCS cellphones to personal digital assistants, and the potential new market for head mounted monocular and stereographic displays.
MCG has initiated a major market study program to segment and quantify the market for personal viewers and displays. The study will define market requirements and quantify system demand. Display definition and color requirements will be delineated; system and display price points defined.
The personal displays market report series consists of four quarterly reports, each covering one segment of the market opportunity. Personal displays are virtual imaging displays based on magnified viewing of microdisplays and can be packaged as either bring to the eye viewers, monocular headsets, or binocular headmounted displays. Microdisplays are high definition miniature imaging devices with a diagonal size of less than one inch.
